Steamboat Springs Tubing

Riding in a cushy innertube—exhilarating, or relaxing? It all depends on the season! The uninterrupted Yampa River stretches through the valley and makes a popular tubing destination for summer, while snow-tubing offers yet one more way to enjoy the snow. Regardless of when you’re visiting, Steamboat Springs tubing offers a great time out!

River Tubing in Colorado Near Steamboat Springs

The sun is high, but not too hot. The water is clear, and the river is cool. You’re floating happily wherever the current takes you, maybe laughing with some friends, maybe drifting drowsily between sleeping and waking. Either way, river tubing is fabulous for relaxation, making it a quintessential vacation activity.

For tubing in Colorado down the Yampa River, head to Backdoor Sports. They’re located in downtown Steamboat and are the only tube rental place in town. They’re conveniently located right off the banks of the river, so you can pay and go immediately! Plus, they also rent out water shoes. Remember to bring sunscreen! Because only a certain number of people can go out on tubes per day, it’s recommended you call them to make reservations.

Snowtubing in Steamboat Springs

There’s the whoosh of brisk air past your face and the pines beyond the slope are racing past—but you don’t need to steer or worry about crashing! That’s the carefree fun of winter tubing. With plenty of powder falling each winter, why not take advantage of it? Snow-tubing is a great way to enjoy the snow, even if you’re not athletically inclined—it’s also great for kids too young to ski or snowboard.

Outside of town, about a twenty-minute drive from the ski area, you’ll find Saddleback Ranch, which also hosts tubing in Colorado during the winter season. Tubing sessions here last 90 minutes, with concessions available! The season is from mid-December to the end of March, and the ranch is closed Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call to make a reservation and take the Saddleback Ranch bus from the Gondola Transit Center.
