Steamboat Activities: Intermediate Skiing

On the majestic slopes of the Steamboat Range (yes, it’s actually multiple mountains), there is an incredible wealth of runs and Steamboat activities available to the intermediate-level skier. You’ll enjoy spending your ski vacation exploring them all, as you warm up and increase your skills to a higher level.

Ski School

Even if you already know how to ski, if you’re a bit rusty, consider starting your trip with a lesson. It’s a great way to make sure you’ll be safe on the slopes, and who knows? You might pick up some really useful tips by spending a little time with an expert teacher. The Steamboat Snow Sports School is a solid place to find some good instruction. Adult day clinics last from 10 am to 3 pm, so they won’t take up your entire day. Or if you really want some specifics on improving your form, consider a private lesson.

If you’re interested in a specialized program or clinic, there are a variety to choose from, no matter your age or ability. Especially popular are the women’s 3-day camp, the Billy Kidd race camp, and the Olympian program, for those who want a chance to ski with one of Steamboat’s pros. All of these are excellent things to do in Steamboat!

A Fun Intermediate Ski Day Full of Things to Do in Steamboat

It’s always a good idea to start out slow with the more physical Steamboat activities, so why not warm up on a few of the bunny slopes before you go big? Ride the Gondola up, then come down on Why Not and Right-O-Way for a nice long warm-up run. When you’re feeling good and warm, head up to the summit of Sunshine Peak for a great ride down one of the many intermediate-level runs there, like Tomahawk, Quick Draw, or High Noon. Head across on Daybreak or Lower High Noon to get back to Thunderhead Lodge at mid-station.

When you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, head over to the summit of Storm Peak for some more challenging trails. Watch out which one you pick: Many of the trails on this mountain are black-diamond rated! But some are intermediate-rated; try Buddy’s Run and Tornado Lane. If you’re still feeling energetic by the evening, consider the unique Night Skiing experience offered on select slopes here!

And of course, don’t forget to cap off your perfect ski day with a hot cup of cocoa by the fireplace in your Steamboat Springs vacation rental from Resort Lodging Company!
