Spend Fourth of July in Steamboat

You’ve never had a 4th of July like this before! If you stay in Steamboat Springs for Independence Day, you’ll get to experience a truly wild western-style celebration like no other. The fun doesn’t stop on the Fourth of July in Steamboat! These festivities span days, so your family will be able to make merry throughout your whole trip.

Independence Day Festivities

Steamboat Springs capitalizes on its rich western heritage to create a very different set of celebrations than the typical “barbecue and fireworks” you may be used to back home.

Start the day with a scrumptious and filling pancake breakfast in downtown Steamboat, and then watch the roller ski competition. Feeling adventurous? Enter the fray yourself and compete for the prize! You may not win, but you’ll have a story to tell for years to come.

Then it’s time for the massive Fourth of July Parade down Lincoln Avenue downtown, followed by the Pioneer Day Block Party and Community Concert at the Tread of Pioneers Museum. You’ll have fun and learn at the same time. You may be amazed by the history of Steamboat Springs and Yampa Valley, shaped as it is by both Native Americans and early settlers alike. Kids especially will enjoy finding out about the hard journeys and difficulties early peoples had to overcome to create the stimulating city you see today.

Ready for a ski jump competition? Even in sunny summer weather, Steamboat Springs sets up an incredible competition for the best athletes to just-beginning teenagers. At the Jumpin’ and Jammin’ Ski Jumping Competition, you’ll be able to watch as skiers “roll” on special summer skis down a huge ski jump, getting massive air on Howelsen Hill.

Now enjoy DJs, music, and dancing on Howelsen Hill until the epic finishing firework and laser light show at night. Your kids will flip over the incredible sights and sounds. The next day, surprise them by going to the rodeo. Bet you never thought you’d see those bucking broncos this holiday, but Brent Romick Arena hosts this exciting Pro Rodeo Series.

Finish the festivities the next day with even more ski jumping, and a trip to Steamboat’s incredible farmer’s market for farm-fresh grub you’ll want to dig into right away. Then it’s time to kick back at your rental again, soaking up the perfect weather and outdoor sports, before heading back home.
