Howelsen Ice Arena

If you’ve come to Steamboat, you’re almost certainly looking for winter fun! Here at the Howelsen Ice Complex, you can have it all year round! The complex is home to an Olympic-size skating rink and draws in people every day it’s open. There are tons of activities here that take advantage of the slippery terrain, from skating to hockey to bumper cars!

The Howelsen Ice Complex is open all seasons, so it’s a popular draw at any time of year. Perhaps more importantly, it’s indoors. As wonderful as the Rockies natural scenery is, having an indoor shot at being active is nice in case rain ruins your hike or wind makes window shopping a hassle.

Ice vs. Snow

The snowbound peaks of Steamboat Springs are one of the best attractions in town, but snow’s counterpart, ice, is often overlooked. That said, there’s plenty of fun to be had out on the ice! The same thrill of speed and displays of grace (or attempts at it) call out to you on the rink. Plus, ice hosts its own array of sports!

Ice-skating is the major draw of this ice rink in Colorado. Whether you’re a beginner still getting hooked on getting a nice smooth glide or a veteran looking to show off, the rink is a great choice for active fun.

Adult hockey leagues convene here for practice and games, open to spectators.

Perhaps the most exciting part of the complex is the bumper cars! Due to their popularity—as well as the safety of others on the ice—it’s recommended to call ahead to make a reservation for this exciting activity. Hop on these tube-looking vessels and go at each other—and be amazed just how far people will fly across the ice! It’s unlike any other sort of ride—whether you’re a kid or an adult, you should try it out!

Location and Admissions

Howelsen Ice Complex is located downtown close to Howelsen Hill. If you just want to skate, that’s $7-8, plus $4 if you want to rent your skates. For 20 minutes of bumper cars, that costs $10.
