Today, it is still the training grounds for beginning Olympians in skiing and snowboarding. Howelsen is also home to the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.
Howelsen Hill Ski Area is conveniently located with accessibility increased by its close proximity to the Yampa River Core Trail. For skiing, the area produces about 150 inches of snowfall each year allowing for 50 skiable acres. Elevations at Howelsen start at a base of 6,969 with a peak of 7,136.
